Camping trip into the Chilcotin in the search of wild horses

Hi All, Just a quick update on the wild horse trip into the Chilcotin. Most of us got back home last Saturday from a weeklong camping trip into the Chilcotin in the search of wild horses. Schnell mal eben das neueste von hier in Canada, letzten Samstag kamen wir zurueck von einer woche camping in der wildniss, dort haben wir die Wildpferde gesucht und gefunden.

Everybody had a great time, rode a average of 5 hours per day, done some swimming at the camp site in a turquoise coloured lake, seen wild horses, wolfs and some other wildlife. We had a wonderful group of people that made Rose's and my job much easier. Rose did a great job of cooking over the camp fire and everybody was impressed and loved her food. Jeder hatte viel spass, wir haben im durchschnitt 5 stunden am tag geritten, haben in dem Tuerkies see and dem wir gekemped haben auch geschwommen, haben viele wildpferde gesehen, sowie auch Woelfe und andere wilde tiere. Es war eine grossartige gruppe von leuten die meiner freundin und mithelferin den job erleichtert haben. Rose hat fuer die ganze gruppe von 13 leuten ueberm feuer gekocht und das essen war herforragend.

These are my two horses Mariah and Calypso. Mariah (the black) used to be a wild horse and Calypso is my 4 year old Azteca gelding. Dies sind meine beiden Pferde Mariah (schwarz) und Calypso. Mariah war selbst einmal ein Wildpferd und Calypso ist mein 4 jaehriger Azteca wallach.

Finding Wild Horses We saw a couple of groups of wild horses in the meadow and tied up our own horses before they had seen us. We watched them for a while and than one of our own horses whinnied. The two stallions from the two herds came to investigate. This almost black stallion is coming in way to close and is in this picture probably no more than a100' from our horses. We had some mares along, so something had to be done, so I jumped out and spooked him off. Auf dieser oeffnung haben wir 2 gruppen von wildpferden gefunden. Wir haben unsere eigenen pferde im wald angebunden und uns die wildpferde angeschaut, bis eins unserer pferde gewiehert hat. Da kamen die beiden hengste der zwei gruppen auf uns zu um zu sehen was da los ist. Der fast schwarze hengst is viel zu nahe gekommen und war nur noch ca. 30 meter von unseren pferden weg, so musste was gemacht werden und ich sprang ous den bueschen und habe ihn erschrocken.

But he didn't really want to leave, so he eventually had to be
chased off on horseback with a waiving shirt.
Aber er wollte nicht wegbleiben, so musste ich ihn mit einem anderen pferd scheuchen.

This is the black and the bay stallion returning to their herds, they are starting to leave because they had seen me running at them with the shirt flopping. While I chased the stallion back, I also seen some wolfs who where just approaching the herd and they where within a 100 yards of them. So by spooking everybody, we probably saved a horses life. A local native guy came to visit with us around the campfire almost every night, said that the wolfs are getting to be a real problem and are killing many horse, cattle, Moose and other wildlife. We had a nightshift out every night and a couple of people heard the wolf's hauling the last night in camp. Der schwarze und der braune hengst kommen zurueck zu ihren herden. Die herde hat shon angst bekommen als sie mich mit pferd sahen und fangen an abzuhauen. Als ich die hengste scheuchte, sah ich zufaelliger weise auch gerade einige Woelfe, die sich an die herde ranmachen wollten. Wenn ich nicht gerede da gekommen waehre, haetten sie bestimmt ein Pferd gerissen. Ein Indianer, der dort in der gaegend wohn kam fast jeden abend zu unserem lagerfeuer zu besuch und er erzaehlte uns das die woelfe so viele pferde, rider, elche und andere wilden tiere umbringen. Sie sind eine plage. Wir hatten jede nacht nachtwache um unsere pferde zu schuetzen, hatten aber keine probleme. Zwei von useren leuten haben die woelfe nachts heulen gehoert.
