Arizona Camping Trip With Horses

Don and I got back home from our 5 week Arizona trip Monday night, February 6th.-06
We had a great time and real nice weather. Our Andalusian stallion Tribuno II and the ex wild horse mare Mariah travelled really well together. Our dogs Toot and Sam where along too. (you should see the back seat of the truck) Here are some pictures of our trip that we would like to share with anybody that's interested.

On the trip down, a couple of hours North of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The horses are hobbled and eating some grass. This is the end of December, 2005. We took portable fence panels to make corral's for the horses and also carried two 45 gallon water drums inside the horse trailer. The water would last the horses 5 to 6 days of camping, depending on if we could find water during the days while trail riding.

A yearling donkey in downtown Oatman sniffing to see if I have any treats.
Our first camp in Arizona, near Oatman, AZ. - there are wild Burrows all over these hills.
During the day time some of the not so wild ones wander into the tourist town of Oatman

If you look closely, above and a little to the right of the stallion's head, you can see a stretch of road, it's the famous Route 66, near Oatman, AZ.

Ex wild horse "Mariah" not quite 4 years old, proving to be a excellent and reliable
trail mount. Pictured in the background, famous "Weavers Needle" landmark

We found a river that actually had water in it, (most of the rivers don't)
and we just couldn't help but play a little. This is the Hassayampa River,
N. of Wickenburg AZ.  An area we would like to visit again someday.

Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, - Palm Canyon area, south of Quartzsite, AZ. Beautiful landscapes everywhere.

Lost Dutchman State Park near Apache Junction, AZ. - Superstition Mountains, has a great trail system, the most beautiful scenery, but the trails can be rocky and difficult at times.

Somebody told me, (and I don't know if it's true) that this kind of Cactus is one-thousand years old before it even starts to grow it's first arm.

We're hoping to see it all again next winter
